Its just-released CityStream Live real-time mapping platform is an AI-curated road data feed, with unprecedented data coverage and freshness, will allow creation of more modern mobility applications and services, but many more OEMs and fleets need to join the effort, says the company’s CEO.

AiMotive will operate as a subsidiary of Stellantis to preserve “its startup spirit,” and its technology is meant to supercharge the mid-term development of the automaker’s STLA AutoDrive autonomous driving platform.

The team from Politecnico di Milano in Italy, with help from the Crimson Autonomous Racing (CAR) Team of the University of Alabama, was the winner under adverse weather conditions at the Indy Autonomous Challenge Powered by Cisco at Texas Motor Speedway last week.

The company’s proprietary SEDAR platform uses SWIR to offer 2D imaging and 3D determinative depth sensing at what it says is a fraction of the cost and complexity of other sensor systems such as lidar.

In Europe, Travel Assist with swarm data allows assisted lane changing, taking the next step towards highly automated driving, and Park Assist Plus with memory function enables learning of parking maneuvers that can then repeated on their own.

The company says that its SUV is the first unmodified mass-produced vehicle to qualify for autonomous tests on designated public roads in China and it follows the company’s debut of a City NGP Pilot program in Guangzhou.

The most promising aspects of the shuttered startup’s business and technology will be absorbed by Ford and Volkswagen as both OEMs look to develop more ADAS applications inhouse and with other partners.

Company execs at a signing ceremony this week targeted steer-by-wire technology development, information sharing, and to “jointly promote” the evolution and development of technology within many fields such as autonomous driving and electrification.

The partnership will offer scalable parking navigation and Type 1 automated valet parking for the first time and an improved parking experience without the need for any costly additional infrastructure within parking facilities.

Ford BlueCruise allows for hands-free driving on prequalified sections of divided highways called Hands-Free Blue Zones that currently make up more than 130,000 miles of North American roads.
