Chinese automaker GAC Group and Huawei have joined forces to produce a smart, autonomous medium- to large-size SUV by 2023.
Labelled as the “first joint product of the two enterprises”, the electric vehicle will have level 4 autonomy and “exciting new energy capabilities”.
GAC will provide the GEP.30 chassis and Huawei its CCA (Computing and Communication Architecture), with the pair planning eight models and multiple series of electric vehicles.
Along with ride-hailing service Didi, the companies target Level 4 autonomy, operating almost entirely without input from humans (current driver-assist mechanisms are classed as Level 2 autonomy). Didi’s intelligent hardware platform, Didi Gemini, will be part of the mix.
