Aptiv has released its next-generation Level 1-3 capable advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) platform, which leverages the company’s full-stack capabilities in perception systems, software and computer platforms, and connectivity.
Part of Aptiv’s Smart Vehicle Architecture, the platform is open and scalable. It’s designed to enable software-defined vehicles, reduce complexity and lower total system costs, according to a news release.
The platform builds on the company’s first-generation automated driving satellite compute platform, which leverages Satellite Architecture and active safety software, perception systems and compute. Designed for scalability, the new ADAS manages software complexity and supporting features ranging from entry-level safety compliance to advanced highway pilot and parking assist, across all vehicle segments. It is built to incorporate future technologies and features, providing more scalability to higher levels of automation.
The platform is compatible with emerging zone control architectures, enabling new business models for OEMs by creating features and services that can be updated over-the-air (OTA).
The platform also applies an Industry 5.0 approach to safety. The platform uses the latest generation of up-integrated driver-state sensing and interior sensing solutions augmented by scalable software. It can verify if the driver’s eyes are on the road and also recognizes and responds to body positioning, gestures and eye movement.
The platform features radars, vision, ultrasonic sensing and LiDAR sensors, including the company’s sixth-generation corner/side radars and forward-facing radars, as well as Aptiv’s first 4D imaging radar. Advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms fuse 360-degree sensor inputs, providing a detailed rendering of the environment around the vehicle.
“Our next-gen ADAS solution cost-effectively delivers safety features over the lifetime of the vehicle that exceed consumer expectations on a platform upon which OEMs can continue to innovate,” CEO and President Kevin Clark said, according to the release. “Our unique position as the only provider of both the brain and the nervous system of the vehicle makes Aptiv the partner of choice for developing software-defined safety solutions that can be democratized as they mature.”
