NIO and Mobileye Form Partnership to Develop Autonomous Vehicles

by IAV Staff

NIO, a China-based company that focuses on the electric vehicle market, recently joined forces with Mobileye, a leader in developing vision technology for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving.
The companies plan to develop automated and autonomous vehicles (AV) for China markets and then to expand into other major territories, according to a news release. NIO will engineer and manufacture a self-driving system developed by Mobileye that builds on the company’s level-4 AV kit. The system is described as “the first of its kind, targeting consumer autonomy, engineered for automotive qualification standards, quality, cost, and scale.”
NIO will mass-produce the system for Mobileye, an Intel company, as well as integrate the technology into its consumer electric vehicle lines and Mobileye’s driverless ride-hailing services.
“At NIO, we pride ourselves on our pursuit of innovation and cutting-edge technology, which not only strengthens our product competitiveness but also shapes a joyful lifestyle for our users,” said William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of NIO, according to the release. “We look forward to building our strategic collaboration with Mobileye in autonomous driving technology development, to further enhance the safety and capabilities of our vehicles, as we strive to be the next-generation car company and the best user enterprise.”
