Initial commercial operations are planned for San Francisco and Miami in 2028, with the partnership targeting a rollout across 25 cities in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. The deal includes an initial $300 million commitment and an option to purchase up to 40,000 additional autonomous units starting in 2030.

The technical foundation centers on Rivian’s third-generation autonomy platform. The agreement adds Rivian to Uber’s expanding portfolio of AV partnerships, which now spans more than two dozen companies across ride-hailing, delivery, and freight.
